EA工作人员称：“《闪克2》不是《闪克》的简单重置，而是一款全新的游戏。（感觉是废话）”而Klei Entertainment的工作人员Jamie Cheng则表示：“我们将整个游戏拆分再重组，以便我们能够将操作改的更加灵活，把画面做的更好。我们把战斗系统拆开……然后创造了使玩家能够使用敌人的武器的系统。”

Klei工作室还加入了在线合作模式。用他们的原话说就是“并非简单的合作闯关模式，取而代之的是合作生存模式”
